A one-day, hands-on training for Dartmouth staff who want to learn how to design and facilitate structured group dialogue. Upon completion of the training, participating staff members will receive the Staff Certificate in Group Dialogue Facilitation.

This 90-minute professional development workshop for staff focuses on how to (and whether to) respond in moments where someone engages in a way that is unexpected during a group conversation. An unexpected engagement could be a loaded comment, a breach of unspoken norms, both, or something else entirely.

In this self-paced workshop, Elizabeth Hayes Alvarez, from the Dartmouth Center for the Advancement of Learning (DCAL), explores why difficult conversations become heated so quickly and how to offer support and create brave spaces that keep these important discussions happening without incivility and escalation. This online module is supplemented by an ongoing learning community where you can provide and receive support for current teaching challenges.
