Growing Momentum and Impact

As we begin the 2025–26 academic year, I’m energized by the growing momentum and expanding influence of our work. In a time marked by deep polarization and rapid change, dialogue remains a vital force for connection, learning, and transformation across the Dartmouth community. With new partnerships, innovative programming, and a deepening commitment to student leadership, we’re poised to meet this moment—and make an even greater impact in the year ahead.

This growing relevance is reflected in the breadth of our engagement—through ongoing collaborations with StoryCorps’ One Small Step, the Constructive Dialogue Institute, the Viewpoints Project, our special topic series, and the Shared Studios Portal. We’re also fortunate to work alongside campus partners including the Rockefeller Center, the Dickey Center, the Student Wellness Center, and the Dartmouth Political Union, whose support helps embed dialogue more deeply into the fabric of campus life.

Looking ahead, I’m especially excited to expand opportunities for student leadership in dialogue. Our goal is to empower students not only to participate in meaningful conversations, but to help shape and lead them. By fostering a culture where students are equipped to guide their peers through moments of difference and connection, we strengthen the foundation of dialogue across campus.

I’m deeply grateful for the vision and support of President Sian Beilock, Professor Elizabeth Smith in her role as director of academic partnerships and faculty engagement, and Senior Vice President Jennifer Rosales, whose leadership has helped integrate dialogue into the new division of Community and Campus Life. The enthusiasm and engagement from our alumni community has also been invaluable.

Throughout my nearly 16 years at Dartmouth, I’ve been consistently inspired by our students—their passion, eloquence, and commitment to engaging with complex issues. The students I’ve met through this work carry that legacy forward with genuine curiosity and concern for the future.

It’s an honor to lead this initiative, and I look forward to another year of growth, connection, and meaningful conversation.
